Our Society
Our Objective is to encourage and promote the cultivation and appreciation of the fine Arts and Artistic skills to all ages of the community by conducting Demonstrations, Tutorial Classes, Seminars and Exhibitions.
The Redcliffe Art Contest was founded in 1957. This Foundation Group was later to become the Redcliffe Art Society. The Art Society provides a meeting point for local artists to improve their skills and to enrich the culture of Redcliffe.
The Redcliffe City Art Collection has more than 250 Artworks acquired through the efforts of the Redcliffe Art Society and sponsorship of the Redcliffe City Council. The Collection has been recognized by Redcliffe Council to be of immeasurable value to the City of Redcliffe, both culturally and economically.
Since foundation the Art Collection has been enlarged by donations from well know Artists, Leonard and Kathleen Schillam, Betty Quelhurst and many more. Margret Olley, William Robinson twice winner of the Archibald Prize was acquired. The Collection increased and a home was necessary for these valuable works. The Art Society was instrumental in petitioning the Council for the present Redcliffe City Art Gallery.
The Redcliffe Art Society currently consisting of 260 Members is one of the oldest Cultural Groups on the Peninsular.
From 1957 to 1997 hosted the Spring Competition. Since 1997 the Fifteen Artists Competition has been run by the Redcliffe City Art Gallery with the yearly winner of the Redcliffe Art Society Members Exhibition included. Artist works from the Society continue to be acquired and added to the Collection.
The present comprehensive program of tutorial classes and seminars conducted by the Society produces many well known Artists, with works exhibited throughout Brisbane.
